Use

The gradual drive starters, also called Softstarters, assure the effective control of the operation of electric motors. By inserting a gradual starter in the motor circuit neither power peaks nor sudden torque changes occur, whether the motor is loaded or not, during the start cycle. The current flow assures a jerkless and joltless start with a continuous speed increase up to the full speed rate.

PS S series gradual drive starters are available for applications up to 515 A.

Fans and centrifugal fans:

Gradual starters facilitate start, in spite of the high mass of the equipment and the consequent long time required for the start. High cost reductions thanks to a lesser degree of wear of gears and other driving components.

Pumps:

The main advantage is the elimination of overpressures occurring during the start and stop phase. Consequently, piping and other system components are less stressed.

Compressors:

Gradual starters create a more suitable start torque and reduce wear of the transmission mechanical components.

Belt conveyors:

It is important to reduce the high start stress and the belt wear due to slipping. Both requirements are satisfied by means of the gradual starters used in material handling systems.

Crushers and mixers:

these machines undergo stresses at different grades depending on the physical characteristics of the material. A gradual start improves the operational conditions by reducing the machinery wear and also facilitates proper lubrication in particularly difficult weather conditions (i.e. very cold temperature).

Hoisting equipment:

Gradual start is particularly important to avoid the excessive oscillation of the load in the start and stop phase and in case of slewing operations.
