The
centrifugal fan is made up of a scroll inside of which an impeller driven
by an external power source (normally an electric motor) rotates. The
impeller can be either keyed onto the motor or to bearing for belt drive.
The main features of a fan are as follows: |
|
| a |
flow rate It is represented by the volume of fluid sucked by the fan in the time unit. It is normally expressed in m³/sec, m³/min or m³/hour. |
| b |
pressure The pressure generated by a fan is called TOTAL pressure (pt); it represents the sum of two different pressures: STATIC + DYNAMIC. The static pressure (ps) is the potential energy to win the resistances set by the circuit against the fluid flow. The dynamic pressure (pd) is the kinetic energy of the moving fluid and depends on the average delivery speed of the air from the impeller inlet. It is normally expressed in kgf/m² or Pa. |
| c | efficiency
It is the ratio between the energy provided by the fan to the fluid and the energy used by the external source to operate the fan. |
| d | rotation speed
Is represented by the number of revolutions per minute the impeller has to make to provide the characteristics required. |
