GLOBAL MEPS

By Efficiency

MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standards) for low voltage motors have played an important role in helping countries to meet their energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions targets. For motor users, MEPS have led to an overall increase in motor efficiency and made it easier to compare efficiency levels between manufacturers.

These benefits have prompted many countries around the world to adopt their own MEPS. However, the actual requirements vary between the different countries – please click the highlighted link to see for more information about the main regions and countries.

EU MEPS, COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2019/1781

By Efficiency

The Commission Regulation will set three different energy efficiency levels (IE2, IE3 and IE4) for motors depending on their power rating.

The regulation will be implemented in two steps where the first step will be on July 1, 2021 and the second step on July 1, 2023. The EU regulations are often referred to as “EU MEPS” (Minimum Energy Performance Standard) setting mandatory minimum energy efficiency levels for products introduced into the European market.

ABB IE5 SynRM MOTORS

By Efficiency

ABB’s award-winning synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motors offer a new first choice to meet the growing global demand for improved energy efficiency.  These motors now meet the new IE5 ultra-premium energy efficiency class defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The IE5 ultra-premium SynRM motors offer up to 50 percent lower energy losses and significantly lower energy consumption than the commonly used IE2 induction motors. ABB first introduced SynRM technology in 2011 and case studies in  industrial installations have demonstrated energy savings of up to 25 percent, depending on the application.

The IE5 level of efficiency is made possible by the SynRM design which combines the performance advantages of permanent magnet technology with the simplicity and service-friendliness of an induction platform. To ensure an environmentally friendly design, the motors do not feature rear earth materials like permanent magnets.

ABB ENERGYSAVE CALCULATOR

By Efficiency

Calculate how much energy and money you could save by using ABB drives while also deriving other benefits such as soft starting and stopping, an improved power factor, and connection into process automation.  EnergySave is a is user-friendly and interactive energy saving calculator for comparing AC drive control against traditional flow control methods in different applications such as fan and pump.  Over the years the formulas behind the tools have been developed and enhanced along with the pump and fan manufacturers in order to provide accuracy.

EnergySave has two modes: Basic and Advanced. The Basic mode let’s you quickly see potential savings, and does not require a lot of technical information from you. The Advanced mode gives you the opportunity to include your technical details for a more specific calculation.
